RAINIER REACT RADIO WATCH TEAM #3366 or R.R.R.W. has been a unit with REACT INTERNATIONAL since 1976 and is a part of the PACIFIC NW REACT COUNCIL. It was founded by a man named James Gentile and others in the Auburn valley area in about the late 60`s and after several years grown to be one of the biggest units in Washington State along with the boom of C.B. radio use through the country. At its height it had about 300 members ranging from the areas of Snohomish Co. to Pierce Co to Kitsap Co. in Washington State.

Through the years with members moving away to other areas and units splitting and forming their own units that were more local to there communities or forming their own units in other parts of the county where there was not any REACT units. The membership numbers had declined to only a handful of people. Again in another rise of interest in another beginning cycle of C.B use and interest in helping people our membership is back on the rise and at this time we have 23 members and hope to enroll more members in the next year. With the help of citizens that like the C.B. radio and Amateur radio and like to help people that may need any thing from a phone call made home to let someone know that their running late because of traffic or weather to a fatality accident or fire. We are also a unit that is not only into C.B. but also have Amateur radio operators and GMRS operators in the unit to enhance our capabilities in our communications. And a lot of the mobile units use cell phones and monitor freq. while on the way to work or other places in case they may receive a call while in route to where they are traveling and may also provide a caller on ch.9 or Amateur radio with assistance.

During the summer we try to participate in some of the local fairs and city days and parades to let people know that were in the area and we try to provide assistance to the communities with what we do. We also try to work with not one but two emergency systems in the area which both are in our area. The city of Auburn, the city of Federal Way Emergency System and we will try and provide assistance in times of local emergencies such as storms and wide spread disaster or flooding.

During the summer we run up to Mt Rainier in the area of Crystal Mountain and Green Water township to put on a road side safety break and group camp out. All member's and their families and friend pack up and head to the hills on the three day weekend during the summer to relax and get with nature like every one else in the state. But while we are there we man and maintain a coffee and other refreshments for traveler's coming through the area some from Washington and other state's and or some from around the world. We also in our time there monitor emergency ch.9 for any and all calls in the area and have communications with the local Law Enforcement and Fire and Forest Service incases of emergencies. While driving the local forest service road's our member's also may help folk's that my be have vehicle problem's or a flat tire or looking for other folk's that they are to meet but don't know the area. Some time we are asked by the local fire or law enforcement to watch for thing such as illegal fires or activities in which we try our best to assist.

We are always looking for more Volunteers for the unit. So if you like radio as a hobby and like to help people we would sure like you to be a part of the team. We also have junior members which are in the age group of 12 to 18 years of age that are also a part of the unit so that it takes in those younger people that want to help the older ones and be apart of it all and the fun.

We have also participated in the communications and set up of 1998 Veterans Day Parade in our local town which is ranked the #5 or #7 biggest in the nation and that was a hand full, just ask some of our team members. But all in all we still had fun doing it and learning from it and meeting some new friends.

If you would like to drop in and see us our meeting's at this time are on the first Saturday at 7:00 P.M. of the month for the full membership at the fire hall at 1101 D St. NE. in Auburn, Washington unless that Saturday is the weekend of a holiday then it would be held on the next Saturday, visitor's and their families are welcome so come by and talk to us and attend our meetings to see what you think or just to say hi. Come on by and see us! No age limits to come to meeting's children welcome its kind of a family affair and function.
